Wengen is known first and foremost for the Eiger. A summit which dominates the village in all its might, and one where some of the finest and most tragic pages on the history of mountaineering have been written. From its presence alone emanates a particular atmosphere which envelops the entire village. Wengen is also famous for the Lauberhorn descent, an immutable stage in the World Cup for Alpine Skiing. But what if you are neither a mountaineer nor a world class skier? Well then Wengen has all the tourist facilities that one would expect from both a major resort and an interesting ski area. However, it is unfortunate that the artificial snow cover has not been further developed.
