The town of Bressanone (or Brixen in German) is steeped in history. Situated on one of the main routes crossing the South Tyrol, it sheltered garrisons and merchants attracted by its strategic position. Bressanone still retains an historic centre whose architectural style dates from this medieval period and gives a certain charm to the area. The skiing is approximately ten kilometres uphill from the town in the Plose ski area. Although it is not a particularly extensive ski area, with the Trametsch downhill slope it boasts one of the longest black ski slopes in Europe. The rest of the sector is however more suited to beginners. Evening entertainment is very lively with the Igloo at the foot of the Plose ski slopes as a sure success.
